LICHTFELD SCORES ON GANDRUD PERFORMANCE NIGHT
WISCONSIN DELLS, WI — The 64th Annual Gandrud Performance Parts Season Opener at Dells Raceway Park proved that while the season is new, the dominant force remains the same. Pardeeville’s Mike Lichtfeld, the defending four-time champion, staged a late-race charge to secure the first victory of the 2026 NASCAR Regional Late Model season.
The afternoon began with Andrew Borntreger setting the pace as the Quick Qualifier with a blistering 14.119-second lap. Heat race victories went to Riley Smith and Rose Borntreger, while Lichtfeld signaled his intentions early by clinching the Diamond Racing Wheels Fast Dash.
When the green flag dropped on the main event, front-row starters Thayran Rezin and Cole Howard led a stacked field into immediate "car fight" mode. Rezin surged to the early advantage, holding off challengers until Clayton Storey mounted a charge to take the lead.
As the laps ticked away, Lichtfeld maneuvered into second place, staring down a 1.4-second deficit. In a clinical display of why he wears the crown, the driver of the #44 methodically erased the gap, catching Storey and making the winning move with just eight laps remaining. Lichtfeld cruised to the checkered flag, followed by Storey, Nick Nolden, Randy Sargent, and Hunter Stenson.
Up Next: The Gandrud Performance Parts NASCAR Regional Late Models return to action on Saturday, May 23rd, for the prestigious Lyle Nabbefeldt Tribute Night.
