The only fatality in the track's 50 plus year history occurred on May 26, 1973 when Wisconsin Rapids driver Lyle Nabbefeldt lost his life during a qualifying crash in turn one. Mahlon Borntreger and Kirby Kurth brought the field to the green with Steve Lichtfeld powering from the 3rd position to the front on lap 4.
