MIDWEST TRUCKS ICEBREAKER 50 TO CHESTER ACE

Wisconsin Dells WI 4/10/22-The Midwest Truck Series opened the 2022 season at Dells Raceway Park. A stout field of 30 Trucks were on hand including 12 Clutch Energy Rookies of the Year Contenders. 509/More Freakin Power would set the top 14 trucks and automatically advance them into the feature. Bryce Miller would claim the top spot with a 14.036. The story of qualifying was how tight the field was. Rookie Alex Braseth locked himself into the show in 14th with a time of 14.284 while Chris Blawat just missed the show with a 14.299.
A trio of heat races was up next for the Midwest Truck Series. Heat wins were taken by Nick Roehl, rookie Tyler Hansen and Danielle Behn. The last chance race was won by Mike Meyerhofer with Chris Blawat finishing second and Kevin Berg rounding out the top 3.
The A-Main was led to green by Pell Lake’s James Swan and Utica’s Kody Hubred. Swan paced the first 11 laps when the caution came out for contact between Alex Braseth and Mike Meyerhofer. On the restart one more lap was completed before the caution came out for Jeff Holtz and Kody Hubred who were running third and fourth at the time. The field went back to green with Ace and Swan running side by side for the better part of the next 20 laps, Kevin Knuese was running third with Bryce Miller, Aaron Moyer and James Lynch battling for fourth through sixth. Lap 35 brought out the next caution of the event during which Bryce Miller pulled off with a mechanical failure. The restart on lap 36 saw Ace take over the lead, while Swan and Knuese were battling for second with Knuese taking over the second spot on lap 42 and Aaron Moyer and James Lynch rounding out the top five. Lap 45 saw the last caution of the event come out with contact between Aaron Moyer and James Swan. On the restart Ace used the high side to hold off Knuese for the win by a margin of only .039 seconds, or about two feet. James Lynch finishing rounded out the podium, Chris Blawat who started 16th finished 4th and Kevin Zielezinski rounding out the top five. Coming into the Icebreaker 50, Chester Ace was 0-13 at Dells Raceway Park, who leaves Race 1 the point leader by only 1 point over Kevin Knuese. The Clutch Energy Rookie points battle is led by Kevin Zielezinski with a total of 80, Eugene Gregorich III sits in second place with 58 and Aaron Moyer with 57.
The month of May looks to be a busy one for the Midwest Truck Series as they have four races. The next event is May 1st at Madison International Speedway as a part of the Joe Shear Classic with the Midwest Tour, then off to the Marshfield Motor Speedway on May 7th followed by State Park Speedway on May 21st and rounding out the month of May at Golden Sands Speedway on Memorial Day Monday, May 30th.
