Lichtfeld Impressive in DRP Late Model Victory
Wisconsin Dells WI 5/8/21-Mike Lichtfeld of Portage came home victorious in the Midwest Lifestyle Roofing and Construction 50 Late Model Feature Saturday Night Presented by Assembly Products of Westfield. Mauston’s Larry Schotten and Morgan Schissel of Mondovi brought the field to green and would swap the lead back and forth thru the first 5 laps before Schotten would take the top spot. Schotten’s reign at the top would not last long as Mahlon Borntreger from Elroy was on a mission taking over control of the race by lap 8. As the field settled in the battle at the top was between Borntreger and Markesan’s Jesse Bernhagen in pursuit. As the race neared the mid-way point, Lichtfeld had worked his way into the mix from his tenth starting spot. A timely caution would tighten the field and Lichtfeld would take over the top spot at the halfway mark followed by Bernhagen in close pursuit. Lifchtfeld would have to hold off Bernhagen thru several late race cautions for the win but in the end it was Lichtfeld victorious collecting the $1000 top prize posted by Assembly Products of Westfield, Bernhagen had to settle for second, Morgan Schissel recovered from a mid-race incident to finish third, Myles Marshall of LaValle fourth and Brady Liddle or Oregon rounded out the top five. Earlier in the night is was Bernhagen fastest in qualifying with a mark of 14.122 84.124 mph. Larry Schotten would win the Clark Power Sports Fast Dash, Gandrud Chevrolet heat wins were picked up by Colton Morgan of Mazomanie and Kevin Kulka of Deerfield. Kulka also won the Gandrud Chevrolet B-Main earning him a spot in the feature event. Late Models will return to action again next week May 15th to continue the Chase for the DRP Championship with Qualifying at 4:30 and Racing starting at 6pm.
