DELLS RACEWAY PARKS HONORS ITS 2009 CHAMPIONS

Champions were honored for their 2009 success this past Saturday night as Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track, celebrated its season at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Five division champions and many weekly competitors were congratulated on their fine seasons.

The evening started with a prime rib and chicken dinner followed by an Awards program emceed by Mike Olson, one of the track’s announcers.

Joe Graziano, co-owner of Dells Raceway Park, spoke on behalf of himself and fellow co-owner Lance Fielitz where he thanked all of the sponsors and each track employee for their help this past season. He also joked that the weather on the day of the banquet was sunny and 68 degrees and said it was the best Saturday weather all year.

Graziano presented a special award to Andy Schultz for leading a great safety crew that he assembled for the track. In fact, Schultz along with Jerry Blystone, Norm Bartnick and Kevin Smith who all work at DRP were also working at Talladega two weeks ago and were the first responders to Ryan Newman after his bad wreck in turn three.

Jeff Kendall of Montello, WI captured his sixth track championship in the Super Late Model division and announced that he will more than likely step out of the car and focus on his son Bobby who competed in the Limited Late Model division this past season. This season he had six fast qualifier awards, one feature win and nine top-five finishes.

Corey Jankowski of Tomah, WI took home not only the Limited Late Model championship, but he was also the division’s Rookie of the Year. Jankowski shared stories about his racing career and taking his daughter on a recent trip to Walt Disney World. He had three fast qualifier awards, six feature wins and ten top-five finishes.

Mike Lichtfeld of Portage, WI, who was the 2008 Super Stock division Rookie of the Year, topped that this season as the 2009 Super Stock champion. It’s his second championship at DRP as he was the 2007 Pure Stock champion. He had ten fast qualifier awards, seven feature wins, and ten top-five finishes.

Brad Luck of Prairie du Sac, WI won the Pure Stock champion. This was his fourth championship in his career. He is also sharing the championship at Madison International Speedway, another ASA Member Track, this season as well. He had three fast qualifier awards and eleven top-five finishes.

Brian Warner of Friendship, WI won his first ever championship by taking the Bandit Division crown. This is the fifth year that Warner has raced. He had ten fast qualifier awards, five feature wins, and nine top-five finishes.

Scott Sauerbrei, Director of Competition, ended the evening by thanking everyone for their support and reminded everyone about the Sportsman Rules Meeting this Thursday night (November 12) at the track starting at 6:30 p.m.
