Bike Night at Dells Raceway Park

Over 150 happy children walked away from Dells Raceway Park Saturday with a brand new bike. The bikes were donated by area businesses, race teams, and fans and free to the lucky children (12 and under). In addition, fans were treated to an on-track autograph session, and kids received rides in the race cars.

With only two weeks left in the season, and the top 5 late models, in a heated battle to become champion, every point matters. Rich Schumann Jr earned a few extra points setting fast time this week in 14.369 seconds. When the feature invert was calculated, Mike Ehde was the one leading the field to green. It didn’t take long for the points leaders to make their way to the front, with Jankowski in second, followed by Mike Lichtfeld and Rich Schumann Jr. The yellow flag flew when John DeAngelis Jr spun out, and the double file restart afforded everyone the opportunity for cars to move up quickly by going to the outside. Dan Lensing took advantage of the outside lane and used it to power past Jankowski and take over second. As Ehde worked on increasing his lead, Jankowski and Lensing battled back and forth. When the checkered flag flew Ehde won his 2nd feature of the year with Lensing in second.

Corey Jankowski won the fast dash. Heat race winners were Joel Soenksen, Brian Hakala, and Jim Bates.

Daron Fish was the fastest Sportsman on track during qualifying, with a time of 15.665 seconds. A full invert helped out Becky Grabarski with the pole position for both the heat and the feature. She took advantage of the top spot and claimed the checkered flag for both races. This was Becky’s second feature win of the season.

In the Pure Stock division Dave Trute wound down his season with a clean sweep! Trute had the fastest qualifying time in 15.906 seconds. In his heat race he started last, and at the halfway point of the 10 lap race he was already in the top spot. Trute had his work cut out for him in the feature event of the night, starting deep in the field of 16. Newcomer, Dean Ashbacher led off the race and held on until the halfway point, when DRP regular, Don Fassett maneuvered past him for the lead. Fassett was cruising toward his first feature of 2010, when Trute moved into second. With just a lap to go, Trute made his move and made it to the checkers just ahead of Fassett. Before heading to the Winner’s Circle, Trute stopped in the pits to pick up a broom, and swept Victory Lane. John Robinson also won a heat race.

Adam “Speedy” Johnson returned to the Bandit division and earned his nickname during qualifying, timing in at 17.454 seconds. In the feature event, Jeremy Simmons led the field to green. While Simmons concentrated on keeping that top spot, past feature winners Brandon and James Junget and Mark Johler worked on getting to the front of the pack. Johler got to the front first and moved past Simmons for his second feature win of the season. An impressive statistic, as Johler has only raced at DRP three times this season. Heat race winners were Mark Johler, Haley Kapp, and Kelsey Schultz.
