Free Grandstand Admission
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (August 2, 2011) - The Madison Sports Car Club will make its second of two appearances at Dells Raceway Park this Sunday, Aug. 7. The MSCC brings in high-end sports cars to weave through a specially-designed course.
Grandstand Admission is free to anyone who wishes to come watch the Sports Car Club racers put their machines to the test. Fans can also pay a $5 entry into the pit area to interact with the racers and get an up-close look at the sports cars.
Timing begins at 11 a.m. Timing and scoring will be made public to the fans, so they can keep close tabs on all of the action.
Over 50 competitors were on hand to time their rides on June 5. The fastest competitor was Andy Smedegard who set the best time with his Subaru WRX. Perhaps the most eye-catching racer was the convertible Porsche Spyder driven by Ray and Jim Statz.
Also charging through the course at Dells Raceway Park were four Mustangs, six Miatas and two Corvettes, as well as several BMWs.
The course began as racers exited the back straight away exit. Diving into the infield, racers executed a series of sharp left and right turns as they meandered through the blacktopped area. After the infield portion, racers shot out onto turn three and maneuvered through several obstacles in turns three and four as well on the front straight. They were timed up until they exited in turn two. Smedegard's best time was 43.466 seconds.
Based out of Madison, Wisconsin, the Madison Sports Car Club, formed in 1954, is among the oldest sports car clubs in the Nation. In 1958 the club joined the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs, which provided the membership a uniform set of regulations and participation in events all over the Midwest.
The Madison Sports Car Club provides a place for automobile enthusiasts to get involved and enjoy a wide variety of motorsports. Whether in road racing, high speed autocrossing, parking lot autocrossing, rallying, or just socializing with people that have the same interests, Madison Sports Car Club has a program for everyone.
