Dells Duel Part Two

The pits were filled to capacity Saturday night at Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Sanctioned Track, with a season high of 32 cars qualifying in the Bandit division. The Mid-American Stock Car Series also had a record setting 29 cars for the Dells Duel Part Two. Late Models, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, and American Super Cups rounded out the field.

The Late Model Division battled it out in qualifying for a chance at the next Assembly Products Dash Challenge. Bobby Kendall knew his car was fast when he qualified with a time of 14.361 seconds. With a full field invert in the Fast Dash, Steve Lichtfeld gained the pole position with Cardell Potter right behind him. With just 10 laps to make a move, Potter attempted to catch up to Lichtfeld, but was just a few seconds behind. Steve Lichtfeld won the dash and a potential spot in the next Assembly Products Shoot Out being held on September 4, 2010.

When the invert was calculated, Bobby Kendall found himself in the middle of the pack, while Mike Ehde led the field from the pole. Ehde set to work on gaining ground, as the group behind him battled for positions. Steve Lichtfeld, coming off his dash win earlier in the night, worked his way past brother Mike to take over second place. At the mid-point of the race, contact between Steve Lichtfeld and Andrew Kulka, brought out the caution, and a double file restart. Bobby Kendall was the first to elect the outside lane, and when the green flag dropped again, Kendall used that outside groove to challenge Ehde for first. They were side by side racing for 8 laps with Kendall just a nose ahead of Ehde when the caution flag flew again. With only 10 laps to go in the race, the field was realigned single file and Bobby Kendall in the lead. Kendall took off on the restart and flew into Victory Lane for his first feature win of the 2010 season. Heat race winners were Ed Jackson, Kyle Wolosek, and Corey Jankowski.

Brian Warner was the fastest qualifier in the Sportsman Division with a time of 15.614 seconds. In the feature event, Ron Grabarski jumped into an early lead with Tuffy Myer right behind him. Grabarski was running a great race and looked to be headed to Victory Lane but a mechanical failure forced him to leave the track. Tuffy Myer took over the lead and won his second feature for the season. Ron Grabarski was the heat race winner.

In the Pure Stock division, Trute kept his qualifying streak alive, scoring his 8th fast qualifier for the season with a time of 15.902 seconds. “Bic” Arendsee led the field to green followed by Mark Ailes. Just three laps into the feature Ailes sailed past Arendsee to take over first. Despite pressure from the pack Ailes hung on to the top spot and won his first feature of the season. Heat race winners were Doug Paul and Dave Trute.

For the second week in a row, Brandon Junget, was fastest on track during qualifying with a time of 17.571 seconds. Kory Childs is having a fantastic rookie season, ranked third in points. Childs would start the feature in fourth place but by the time the field completed the first lap he was in the lead. Josh Bisbee, in second position, raced hard but couldn’t get past Childs. When the checkered flag flew, Kory Childs won his first feature. Jeremy Simmons, Todd Kolpien, Jim Lorang, and Kory Childs won the heat races.

In American Super Cup racing, Erik Gehrke won the 20-lap feature and a heat race. David Cerer had fast qualifying time and won a heat race as well.
