WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (July 20, 2011) - Frank Kreyer will act as more than just a driver when the Alive For Five Super Late Model Series presented by Advanced Engine Concepts returns to Dells Raceway Park Saturday. He'll also be a coach, mentor and car owner.
On July 2 Kreyer and MK Motorsports reached an agreement with Clermont, Fla., driver Amanda Ferguson. Ferguson will wheel a number 77 Culver's Toyota Camry in Round Three of the Alive For Five Series.
Just like AFF Round 2 winner Dalton Zehr, Ferguson was discovered by Gene Coleman of Coleman Racing Products. He got Kreyer in touch with Rick Gabor who is the primary sponsor of Ferguson's efforts in Florida.
"Gene Coleman told Rick that to teach these kids how to race they have to come to Wisconsin," Kreyer said.
"I'm really excited," Ferguson said of making her DRP debut. "I thought it was a beautiful facility. The track itself looked like a lot of fun. The racing was really good."
At 18 years of age, Ferguson has seven championships to her name. Also among her accomplishments are: becoming the youngest female to win a wingless 360 Sprint Car event on asphalt and being named Rookie of the Year in the Checkered Flag Sprint Series in 2009. Her most recent accomplishment in the Sprints came last season when she became the first female to win a 360 Sprint Car race on dirt in the state of Florida.
In 2011 Ferguson joined the Florida-based Phase One Motorsports. She has been racing a Super Late Model in the Sunshine State at select events. Her most recent event was at Punta Gorda Speedway.
Kreyer said his first impressions of Ferguson were outstanding.
"She is very, very bright. I know she's been in Sprint Cars with a bunch of horsepower and been successful in both Go-karts and Sprint Cars. She told me that she struggles a little with these Late Models."
Ferguson said bad luck has plagued her thus far in her Super Late Model career in Florida. "Honestly it's been a lot of bad luck. We've had mechanical failures, engine failures, and bad luck on the race track," she said. "It's not going the way we had planned, but things have been starting to look up. Everything has been happening at once."
However, with Kreyer's reputation of running up front at Dells Raceway Park, Ferguson has a good chance to reverse the curse on Saturday in Kreyer's Camry.
"He's told me a little bit about it," said Ferguson. "He was telling me I'll be driving the white car and he won the last four times he's driven that car there."
Ferguson will get her first laps at Wisconsin's Showcase Short Track on Friday in a test session. She and Kreyer will also be making an appearance at Culver's in Sauk City on Hwy 12/60 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to Ferguson's web site, Round Three of the AFF is only the first of several stops for her in the Midwest. She is scheduled to return for Rounds Four and Five on Aug. 13 and Sept. 10 and will also make stops at Wisconsin International Raceway, Sands Speedway (Marquette, Mich.) and La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway for Oktoberfest Race Weekend.
