This Saturday, an inaugural Late Model Series will punctuate the first annual Mike Ladika Remembrance, sponsored by Beagles Bar.
For the past 4 weeks, Late Model Drivers have been scrambling to make the Trophy Dash so as to qualify for a 20 lap $1,000 shootout. The format is the brainchild of Ed Schell, CEO of Assembly Products. "All of a sudden, qualifying became an event in itself," Schell said. "Now comes the icing on the cake for racers and fans alike".
Spectators were on the edge of their seats during qualifying runs as announcer Todd Behling worked the "Bubble and Bump" process. "That's the most fun I've ever had during qualifying" Behling said. "The drama was evident and now we get to watch the best drivers work toward a hefty bonus".
If fan response is any indication, future shootouts are a certainty. "This has become a high profile event for us, and several potential sponsors are lining up for Round 2 and beyond" said Track Manager Scott Sauerbrei. "This could become a season long series culminating in a "shootout of shootouts" at the season championships.
Here are the participating drivers for Round 1:
Rich Schumann Jr
Davey Pennel
Cardell Potter
Robert Kendall
Corey Jankowski
Mike Lichtfeld
Mike Ehde
Shayne Poenhelt
Fan gates open at 4:00 PM, Qualifying begins at 4:30 PM, and Green Flag Racing starts at 6:30 PM.
