Automotion Burnouts, Klement's Sausage Races, and Vintage Cars Join Program
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (May 17, 2011) - If absence makes the heart grow fonder, then Dells Raceway Park fans have been given some extra time to build infatuation. Starting three weeks later this season, DRP opens its doors for the first racing program this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Three additional weeks in the offseason have allowed DRP officials to add some punch not only to the opening event, but to the entire schedule. With five Super Late Model races, a two-day Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car Series event and some special promotions along the way, fans will have plenty of reasons to return to DRP each and every Saturday night.
Saturday's event, which is presented by Gawronski Signs of Reedsburg, promises to have a little something for everyone.
DRP will start early Saturday by teaming up with the Automotion Car Show in downtown Wisconsin Dells. Representatives from DRP will be on hand at the show to display one of the Drive or Be Driven house cars and answer any questions. The partnership with Automotion will continue later in the day as the hot rods conclude their cruise through the Dells with a burnout contest at DRP at 5:30.
As fans wait for the burnout and the racing action to begin, they will be greeted and entertained by the famous Klement's Racing Sausages. The Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage and Hot Dog will be on hand to snap pictures and put on a race for the fans during opening ceremonies.
Once the two-legged, tubular-shaped meats conclude their portion, the four-wheeled frenzy of DRP's four weekly divisions will begin their 2011 seasons. One of the most competitive fields in the country last year, the weekly premier Late Model division promises to have in the neighborhood of 30 entries Saturday. Defending Champion Corey Jankowski, Rookie of the Year Mike Lichtfeld, Davey Pennel, Rich Schumann Jr., Robert Kendall and Dan Lensing will all be on hand, as they begin the hunt for the title.
A blast from the past will also join the program. A reminder of how race machines used to look, the Vintage Cars are specially manufactured to replicate race machines from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
Fans are also welcome to grab a sneak peek of the action with an open practice for all DRP divisions from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and hot laps for the Automotion drivers and Vintage cars on Friday.
The fan gate at Dells Raceway Park opens Saturday at 3 p.m. Qualifying for all divisions will begin at 3:30, prior to the burnout at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Admission is $10 for an adult, $7 for youth (age 10-15), $7 for seniors (62 and older), and all kids 9 and under are admitted free.
Dells Raceway Park is located at N1070 Smith Road, five minutes north of downtown Wisconsin Dells, Wis., off highway 12-16. For more information including the latest news, the 2011 schedule and more visit www.dellsracewaypark.com.
