DELLS RACEWAY PARK PARTNERS WITH OPERATION HOMEFRONT

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (May 14, 2011) – Last season Operation Homefront was present at Dells Raceway Park on Military Salute Night to administer the 50/50 raffle. This season OH will return each week to take care of those duties.

This season, however, the group hopes to get more involved with race fans, said Darcy Clardy, Chapter President of Wisconsin. Clardy said she hopes to have people on site to answer any questions people may have about Operation Homefront and its mission.

Operation Homefront was formed nationally in 2002 in response to the 9/11 attacks. Wisconsin chapters formed in 2005 and 2006 in LaCrosse and Milwaukee. In 2009 the two chapters combined to provide their service state-wide and set up the office in Madison.

“Our primary mission is to provide emergency financial assistance to military members and their families during times of deployment,” Clardy said. “But we also do care packaging, family fun nights, parades and other community activities.”

Clardy has been involved in the organization since 2006 where she began as a volunteer in the La Crosse chapter. In August of 2010 she accepted a position as Chapter President for Wisconsin.

A veteran herself, Clardy said she is happy to continue in the organization.

“This is our way of generating and continuing the community support and acknowledgement of the sacrifices that have been ongoing from our military,” she said. “A lot of us involved with Operation Homefront are military veterans ourselves. It’s kind of our way of continuing to give back to our current military and our veterans.”

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Operation Homefront was formed in February 2002. It was developed to support the families of deployed service members immediately following 9/11. Operation Homefront is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and has evolved into a major nonprofit. The organization currently provides services to military families across the nation with 23 chapters serving 32 states.
