Opening Day and Cabin Fever 75

With bright and sunny skies Saturday, Dells Raceway Park kicked off their 2010 season with the Cabin Fever 75.

In the Budweiser Late Model Division, 16 year old Davey Pennel of Sparta, qualified first with a 14.259. Mike Lichtfeld lead the Cabin Fever 75 from the pole and held it for the early part of the race. However, defending champion Corey Jankowski quickly took the lead from Lichtfeld and hung on toclaim his first feature win of 2010. Mike Ehde, Ed Jackson, Andy Niles, and Ed Szelagowski raced their way into the main event by placing in the top spots of the B-Feature. Scott Ollerman won the fast dash, and Mike Lichtfeld and Ed Jackson won their heat races.

With a full invert Rick Coppernoll claimed the pole for the NEW Sportsman division feature. Ron Grabarski worked his way through the field but couldn’t manage to get past Coppernoll before the laps ran out, sending Coppernoll to Victory Lane. Ron Grabarski won the heat race.

Defending champion Brad Luck started his season out by shattering the previous track record of 15.947 by turning a 15.722 in qualifying. With an invert of 10, Luck was placed in the middle of the pack for the feature and he battled his way into second position with only a few laps to go. Not enough time for him to work his way past the leader throughout the race Kevin Gilding, so it was Gilding that picked up the first win. Heat race winners were Mark Hohl and Kevin Gilding.

The racing was fierce and competitive in the Bandit division with over 20 cars in the field. Brandon Junget set fast time with a 17.696. In the B-Feature Hunter Johnson, Ren Revels, Jo Rupp, and Nick Rittemann received the transfer positions to the main event. In the feature Brandon Junget proved that his car really was the fastest on track by racing through the field and into victory lane. Ren Revels, Gene Bialozor, and James Junget won the heat races.
