WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (March 23, 2011) - Last season Dells Raceway Park Late Model champion Corey Jankowski contributed his success to his hard-working crew. It was a crew that included Josh Bonick, who now attends Ohio Tech on a scholarship and is one of the top students in his class.
This season, students will again have a chance to join forces with a DRP team in pursuit of a scholarship to Ohio Technical College. With Jankowski's success of last season, the mutually beneficial program will place an estimated dozen students on board with teams now eager to have their services.
"The influence of having Josh on our team was the best I had ever seen. The kid picked up on stuff and he made something of himself," Jankowski said at the DRP banquet in November. "The look in his eyes is something that has influenced me more. Watching Josh get his scholarship and go on to Ohio Tech gives me the light to continue going on doing this."
DRP will again team with Ohio Tech representative Randy Dziadowicz. Dziadowicz will work hand-in-hand with DRP Competition Director Scott Sauerbrei for the second consecutive year to place and assess students.
"It's been a real good experience working with these kids and Randy," Sauerbrei said. "What Ohio Tech offers the students as far as scholarships and experience is a real positive."
Dziadowicz said some of the program's details such as scoring and assessment of the students will be tweaked this season. Ohio Technical College is working on those details, which will be finalized in the coming weeks.
DRP and Ohio Tech will hold an informational meeting tentatively scheduled for April 16th at the DRP track office.
Students of junior or senior standing in high school who wish to participate in the Ohio Tech program may contact Randy Dziadowicz at 414-339-9586 or by e-mail rdziadowicz1@wi.rr.com.
