WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (January 18, 2011) - After two meetings with drivers, the outcome became clear: Super Late Models will return to Dells Raceway Park in 2011. On Saturday drivers agreed to terms on a new way of doing business - in a new joint-venture with DRP officials.
Both drivers and officials will seek sponsorship to fund the class in the joint-venture system. The class will race for a purse at each event and teams will be offered ways to cut their expenses of tires and pit passes. Teams can also look forward to a point fund awaiting them at the end of the 2011 campaign.
"Our new system empowers drivers to use their marketing skills to help subsidize the class," said DRP co-owner Joe Graziano. "Let's face it; it takes a smart business mentality to fund a super late model race team. They have all of the right tools to complement what we can do as a track."
Aside from assisting in finding the funds for the class, DRP will ensure contributing sponsors brought to the table by drivers are properly recognized. "We're going to create a spectacle of sorts. They'll be given VIP treatment, plenty of signage and plenty of recognition. " Graziano said. "Fans and drivers at DRP will know who is responsible for the return of Super Lates."
Officials have been working closely with drivers, receiving input on the new system. Pardeeville's Tom Lichtfeld, who raced a Super Late Model at DRP two seasons ago, said he's excited about the new plan.
"We're blazing a new trail here," Lichtfeld said. "The track has effectively partnered with the Racer to provide unprecedented value to the Sponsor. It completes the package that we Drivers now have to offer."
Lichtfeld has also been working to sell the plan to other drivers. "I've been hearing really positive feedback," he said. "I think we're cutting edge. It's going to be something that hasn't been seen before."
Should the proper funding be secured, the Super Late Model return will be tagged the Alive for Five Super Late Model Series. In December, Drivers came to a consensus of a limited schedule in 2011. Super Late Models will be featured on a select dates including: May 28, July 1-2, July 23, August 20, and September 10. An overall championship will be determined by a driver's four best races out of the five events.
Still in the works is a finalized 2011 schedule, which will be released in the coming weeks.
Dells Raceway Park is located at N1070 Smith Road five minutes north of downtown Wisconsin Dells off highway 12-16. For more information please visit www.dellsracewaypark.com.
