Championship Night couldn't have gone much better for those who claimed titles on Saturday at Dells Raceway Park. Dan Lensing (Late Models), Randy Breunig (Sportsman) and Mark Hohl (Pure Stocks) also won the final feature events of the season. In the Bandits 13-year-old Spencer Wilhelm became the youngest driver to win a DRP track title.

On a night where Mother Nature played a factor, qualifying was washed out for the Late Models, Sportsman and Pure Stocks. To determine the Late Model feature starting line up, a new format was installed. Qualifying races that were fully inverted by points put emphasis on the heats. Where drivers finished the 12-lap prelims was where they were slated to start the main.

Working through the heats were Lensing and Rich Schumann Jr., who was seeking his third straight Late Model feature win. Schumann started the 40-lap feature on the outside of row two, with Lensing on the inside of row three.

Behind front-row starters Luke Westenberg and Nate Opplinger, Lensing and Schumann needed to bide their time. On lap six Lensing and Schumann moved past Opplinger to second and third and closed in on Westenberg until a spin by Russ Grossen brought out the yellow.

Westenberg held the front row to himself with Lensing behind and Schumann flanking to the outside. At the drop of the green Schumann broke out to the lead and Lensing was left to test the outside of Westenberg for second.

As Lensing closed the gap, another yellow fell for a Morgan Schissel spin. When the cone was placed, visiting Jason Erickson jumped to the outside line and restarted third - moving up from the fifth spot.

However, on the lap 14 restart Schumann and Lensing broke away. Five laps later Lensing jumped to the outside of Schumann and took the lead on lap 23. As Lensing tried to build his advantage, a yellow fell for a fire in the pit area.

On the single file restart Schumann stuck close with Lensing. Through turns one and two Schumann tapped Lensing and got him sideways in an attempt to open up the inside line. Lensing held strong on the outside and turned back Schumann for the final 13 laps.

Erickson went on to finish third, Brent Edmunds was fourth and Jesse Bernhagen finished fifth from his 16th starting spot.

The win was the seventh on the season for Lensing, of Roscoe, Ill., who also set fast time on ten occasions, including a track record last week. Schumann finished third in season standings and Mike Lichtfeld was third.

All Randy Breunig needed was to see the green flag at to claim his first DRP title. Being the first to see the checkered was added bonus for the driver from Columbus, Wis.

Breunig seemed content to hang in the tail of the field through the first portions of the 25-lap Sportman main. However, when things began to open up in front of him, Breunig began his ascent and proved why he was the strongest of the Sportsman all season long.

Being trailed by Mitch Lyden and Scott Luck, Breunig closed the gap with six laps left on Brian Warner for second. Warner, who had been trailing Daron Fish closely for the top spot, watched Breunig cruise past on the outside, then slide past Fish in the same run to take the lead.

As Breunig broke away, Fish held off Warner for second. Scott Luck made a late run to fourth, which helped him secure the second spot in Sportsman standings over the team of Lyden and Dave Trute. Kelsey Schultz rounded out the top five but failed technical inspection.

There was no flash or flare for Mark Hohl this season - just simple hard work and a dominating effort in the Pure Stock division. After countless hours in the shop this week to repair his machine, the Baraboo racer claimed his second Pure Stock title with his eighth win of 2012.

The final was perhaps the easiest for Hohl as several late scratches to the field left him starting on the outside of the front row. Hohl took a half straightaway lead by lap two. Over the final circuits, Hohl's late-season rival Travis Hancock caught up, but did not have enough time.

Hohl's advantage over the second-place team of Jeff Burrows and Brad Warthan was 125 markers. The team of Don Fassett and Carey John was third.

Last year West Salem's Spencer Wihelm became the youngest ever DRP weekly division feature winner - now he is the youngest Champion in the facility's 50-year history. At just 13 years of age Wilhelm proved that poise and consistency were the keys to winning in the Bandits.

Although all other champions claimed feature wins on this night, Wilhelm was content to stay in the top ten and make his moves once he knew the title was his.

An early lead was taken by Andy Portzen in the 20-lap Bandit main. Gary Stark weaved his way through traffic early in the main and was up to the third spot by lap seven. Continuing to attack Stark grabbed the lead from Portzen by lap 14 and broke away.

Over the final five laps, spots were swapped in the top five by Wilhelm, Ed Klug and Ali Pennel. Portzen finished second, Dennis Delaney was third, and Klug grabbed fourth from Pennel in the final circuits.

Wilhelm was ecstatic in victory lane, hopping on top of his machine. The youngster explained how much it meant to him to be the youngest DRP champion and that he looks forward to continuing his already bright career. Wilhelm's final advantage over Stark was 32 points. Arch Preston finished third, two points ahead of Haley Kapp and four ahead of Portzen.
