HOLZHAUSEN FLIES TO ANOTHER WIN AT DELLS RACEWAY PARK

By: Kevin Ramsell
WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (Saturday, August 09, 2008) - Steve Holzhausen took advantage of an opportunity to win the Ho Chunk Military Salute Night 50 at Dells Raceway Park.   Cardell Potter, Travis Hancock, Brad Luck and Jody Schmidt also picked up feature wins on a great Saturday night of American Speed Association Member Track racing action.

A great crowd was on hand to salute all of the branches of the military and witness the veteran from Bangor, WI pick up another feature win on the 1/3-mile oval.

Jim Carlson and Kevin Breschia put on a great side-by-side battle for the top spot in the first 19 laps of the 50-lap main event.  Carlson, who was on the outside during those opening laps, started to fall back on lap 20 as Breschia would pull away and take the lead.

Dan Lensing and Holzhausen, who started 12th, would follow Breschia past Carlson and pull away.

Lensing would get to the back bumper of Breschia to challenge for the lead and the two would make contact coming out of turn four on lap 26.  Breschia would get loose and Lensing would hit the brakes.  This allowed Holzhausen to go on the outside of the two and vault to the lead going into turn one.

Holzhausen would pull away with Lensing not to far behind.  Breschia would fade as Jeff Kendall, Kenny Reiser, and Don Turner would move into the top-five.

Holzhausen would take the win by 0.715 seconds over Lensing.  Kendall got by Reiser in the last few laps to take third.  Turner would hold on to fifth.

Breschia and Bobby Wilberg were the heat winners while Kendall was the fastest in qualifying with a time of 13.354 seconds (89.860 mph).

Potter best the rest in the Limited Late Model feature.

Tim Syvrud took the lead at the start of the 35-lap event.  Five laps later, Potter would get a good run on the outside to take the lead.

Potter, who recently got his driver's license, showed that he was experienced behind the wheel as he would lead by a car length over Steve Lichtfield.

He appeared to be on his way for an easy win until the caution flew with four laps to go when Mike Ehde made contact with the turn three wall.  Potter wasn't fazed by this as he continued to lead on the re-start and go on to win his first ever feature win over Lichtfield.

Wes Coon would hold off a late charge from Ross Kenseth to finish third while Tim Syvrud rounded out the top five.

Kyle Wolosek, Andy Niles and Michael Ehde got the heat wins with Rocky Breezer being the fastest of 21 cars with a time of 14.306 seconds (83.880 mph).

Hancock would go from the back to the front and win the Super Stock feature.

It was a full invert for the 30-lap feature event, but that didn't stop the top three in qualifying to finish in the top three at the finish.

Terry Knupp was the early leader but the outside line was the way around in the Super Stock division as Brad Muller would take over the top spot on lap 9 with Hancock, Corey Jankowski and Lichtfield following him.

Hancock would use the outside line to get past Muller on lap 16 to take the lead.  Muller would fall out a few laps later with mechanical problems.

With Hancock easily leading, the fans kept a close eye on the battle for second between Lichtfield and Jankowski for second as the two raced side-by-side for that position.

At the checkers, it was Hancock taking home the win with Lichtfield holding off Jankowski for second.  Brian Hakala was fourth and Scott Luck finished fifth.

Brad Muller and Dale Schultz won the heats and Lichtfield set the fast time of the evening of 14.695 seconds (81.660 mph).

Luck held off Gilding on the last lap to win the Pure Stock feature.

Ben Kobertson had the early lead in the 25-lap feature event.  But it only took Luck three laps to go from his ninth starting position to the lead using the outside line as he would get by Kobertson for the top spot.

Luck wouldn't have an easy cruise to the victory as Gilding was on his bumper throughout the rest of the feature event.  Gilding tried looking on the inside lap after lap, but Luck was too strong off the corners.

Luck would get the win by half a car length over Gilding with Daron Fish in third.  Willy Schreiber was fourth and Lenny Raupp rounded out the top five.

Adam Johnson and Sandy Cook took home the heat wins while Luck had a fast time of 16.261 seconds (73.795 mph).

Schmidt had a great battle with Brian Warner to win the Bandit feature.

Cody Gray jumped to the early lead in the 15-lap feature but it didn't last long as Schmidt got by him for the top spot on the second lap.

Schmidt would lead as Brian Warner would chase him down and challenge for the top spot on lap 12.  The two would swap the lead back and forth over the last three laps, but it was Schmidt leading the important lap as he took the win over Warner.

Wally Boehm was third with David Treu Sr. in fourth.  Gray would finish fifth.

Ren Revels and Warner grabbed the heat wins and Treu Sr. was the fastest in Bandit qualifying with a time of 17.585 seconds (68.239 mph).

PLEASE NOTE - Starting next Saturday night, August 16th, the racing program will start at 6:30 pm for the remainder of the 2008 season.  This is one half-hour earlier then the previous start time of 7:00 pm.  "With us providing great family entertainment, we realize that we cannot run late into the night," Joe Graziano, Dells Raceway Park Promoter stated.  "So we decided that by starting at 6:30 pm, we can accomplish this goal and give our ample time to visit the pits and meet the drivers after the races."
