Kendall, Clapper, Jankowski, Grabarski, and Malouf Bring Home Checkers

Dells Raceway Park celebrated Koenecke Equipments Kid’s Night on August 2nd.  In addition to the feature racing, kids were treated to rides around the track in the race cars, face painting, and inflatable games and activities sponsored by Viking Village Foods Reedsburg.

Steve Holzhausen set fast qualifying time in the Super Late Model division.  Both Jeff Kendall and Steve Holzhausen started the feature in the fifth row.  Kendall worked his way towards the front in the first 25 laps of the feature to start 5th in the second half.  Kenny Reiser started the second 35 laps from the pole, and ten laps into the race he was watching Kendall in his rearview mirror as Jeff pulled into second place.  It was a battle for first and Reiser managed to keep his lead until lap 22 when Kendall saw his opportunity and raced into first place.  Jeff Kendall received his second feature win of the season.

In the Limited Late Model Division, Andrew Kulka set his first fast qualifying time at Dells Raceway Park.  As the division set out on the first part of their 50 lap feature Kurt Clapper was sitting on the pole and he was still in first after the first 20 laps.  In the second part of the feature Clapper stayed in the lead, with Ross Kenseth moving up to second.  This was Kurt Clapper’s second feature win of the season.

Travis Hancock who is leading the points in the Super Stock division set fast qualifying time this week.  Brad Muller started on the pole for the first part of the feature which was 15 laps, and he held on to the lead despite having a small fire start underneath his hood during the last lap.  Unfortunately, Brad was not able to continue onto the second part of the feature.  Corey Jankowski worked his way up from eighth position to fourth in the first part of the feature and moving into the second he had his sights set on Victory Lane.  Six laps into the second leg of the feature Jankowski took the lead and cruised into his fourth feature win of the season.

In the Pure Stock Division, Lenny Raupp set the fast qualifying time with a 16.326.  After the eleven car invert Becky Grabarski started the first part of the feature on the pole.  She hung on to the lead throughout the first 15 laps defending her position from Daron Fish.  In the second part of the feature Becky stayed on the pole with Fish right behind her.  In lap 17, contact occurred between Lenny Raupp and Daron Fish resulting in both of them being sent to the rear of the field.  That moved Becky’s brother Ron into the second place position, and brother and sister battled it out in the remaining eight laps, but it was Becky who took the checkered flag and her first feature win of the season.

Brian Warner was the fast qualifier in the Bandit division this week.  With ten laps to start the first half of their feature Phil Malouf, who started in eighth position worked his way to the front of the field.  This started Malouf on the pole for the second half of the feature and despite heavy lap traffic he kept his lead over Warner to take home a feature win at Dells Raceway Park.

Join us next week, August 9th for Military Salute Night.  We will be honoring our armed forces with an Army Band Quintet for the National Anthem, Vietnam Vets Color Guard, National Guard Climbing Wall, and Coast Guard Auxiliary Displays, and more.  Anyone with a valid military id or veterans card will receive ½ of the price of admission that day.
