It was an 8 Cylinder Power Party at Dells Raceway Park July 26th. Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, and Pure Stocks were joined by the Mid American Stock Cars for Duel in the Dells Part 2 and the Grand National Vintage Race Cars.
The Super Late Model division ran a 60 lap feature which was split into two 30 lap segments with a 10 minute break in between. Jeff Kendall set fast qualifying time this week in the Super Late Model division, which started him in tenth place for the feature. By the end of the first 30 laps Kenny Reiser was in first with Steve Holzhausen right behind him. Jeff Kendall had moved up from tenth to sixth during those first 30 laps. Seven laps into the second part of the feature Steve Holzhausen passed Kenny Reiser to take over first place and defended his position to bring home the checkered flag.
Rich Schumann Jr set fast qualifying time for the second week in a row in the Limited Late Model division. It was Mike Ehde who started in third for the feature that took the lead in lap 7 followed by Kurt Clapper. Rich Schumann Jr worked his way to third place and despite having the fastest lap time of the race in lap 23 he couldn’t get past Clapper or Ehde. So it was Mike Ehde who received his second feature win of the season. In the second feature the invert was based on the finish of the first race which placed 16 year old Rookie, Cardell Potter in the pole position. Potter defended his lead until lap 13 when contact occurred between Andy Niles and Cardell Potter resulting in a caution and both cars being sent to the back of the pack. That placed another rookie, Jesse Bernhagen in the lead on the restart with Nick Nolden and Mike Ehde behind him. Bernhagen held his lead until the final two laps when Mike Ehde passed him and drove to Victory Lane for his second feature win of the night and his third of the season.
In the Super Stock division Mike Lichtfeld set fast qualifying time with a 14.885. Terry Knupp started on the pole for the first Super Stock feature of the night. Heading into lap 15 Knupp was in first with Brad Muller, Dale Schultz, and Mike Lichtfield trailing him. The yellow caution flag went out when contact occurred between Muller and Schultz, sending Muller, Schultz, and Knupp to the pits and placing Mike Lichtfeld in the lead. Lichtfeld visited victory lane and received his third feature win of the season. In the second feature Travis Hancock worked his way up from tenth and by lap seven, Hancock was in second place behind Brad Muller who started on the pole. It took Hancock 3 laps to find the right time to make his move on Muller and he took the lead with 15 laps to go. Travis Hancock took the checkered flag and added to his lead in the points race.
During qualifying it was Brad Luck who set the fast time for the week in the Pure Stock division. In the first feature he managed to avoid two cautions and made his way to the front of the pack. By lap 8 he was in second place behind Don Fassett and three laps later he was in the lead. He held that lead for the rest of the 25 lap feature and visited Victory Lane for the first time this season. In the second feature Lenny Raupp started in third and by lap 3 he had moved into second behind rookie Ben Koberstein. In lap 12 Lenny passed Ben and took the lead with Ron Grabarski right behind him. At the end of the 25 laps, Lenny Raupp had his fourth feature win of the season.
The Grand National Vintage Cars featured a full range of cars including a 1957 Chevy, 1968 Richard Petty Road Runner, and a 1964 Ford. In their 20 lap feature the #91 driven by Darrel Buessener from Wisconsin Rapids claimed the checkered flag in his 1957 Chevy.
